Annual Shield draws bowlers to the Bay

THE Port MacDonnell Bowling Club held its 34th annual Malseed Shield on Saturday, with 30 players taking part in pairs and triples.

Two games of nine ends were played with only three two-game winners, with skip Lorraine Mackereth, John Naismith and Barrie Schmidt claiming the honours with 54 points plus 20 shots up.

Second place went to an Adelaide visitor Hugh Shelton and local Marilyn Sutton with 54-16.

Kevin Norman and Shirley Taylor rounded out the podium with 54-13.

Athol Malseed presented the winners and runners-up with their prizes.

Meanwhile, Friday’s Pennants saw mixed results for the Port MacDonnell teams.

Division1 travelled to take on Naracoorte and returned victorious, with a 51 shots 6 points win over Naracoorte 40-2.

Sharon Perryman, Robyn Burley, Jan Dowdell and skip Judith Grosvenor lost to Christine Murphy 21-23, while Nallia Lucas, Jennie Tilley, Carol Schmidt and skip Heather Richards defeated Lynette Williams 30-17.

Division 2 travelled to face Beachport Red and went down 45-0 to 60-8.

Shirley Taylor, Heather Fox, Lorraine Mackereth and skip Marilyn Sutton lost Sue Young 19-33, while Lyn Jones, Lyn Vanderley, Cheryl Doddridge and skip Elaine Pruis lost to Jill Preston 26-27.
