Robe hits highs and lows in bowls

THE Robe Bowls Club held its annual Christmas Ham Day, sponsored by Valma and Errol Jennings, where 19 players enjoyed two lots of two games over 12 ends on a warm day.

There were three two-game winners.

Third on 54 points were Peter Roachock and Vic Dawson, second on 54 were Kerrie Boyd and Pat Lynch and the winners on 55 were Stephen Kennett and Paul Truelove.

The recent women’s pennant saw the games start early due to heat rules.

Division 2 went to Beachport while Division 3 traveled to Lucindale, both teams coming away with a loss.

Division 2 Beachport defeated Robe 47 shots and 8 points to 39 shots, 0 points.

Judy Bermingham’s team was defeated by Anne-Marie Goode’s team 23-22, while Valma Jennings’ team was defeated by Pam Hale’s team 24-17.

Division 3 Lucindale defeated Robe 51-8 to 29-0.

Ann Moore’s team was defeated by Anna Sharman’s team 23-16 and Jan Fisk’s team was defeated by Cheryl Ferguston’s team 28-13.

Both women’s teams go to the break in third place on the ladder.

Open teams Division 1 and 3 played home on December 18 with a win to both teams.

Division 1 Robe defeated Naracoorte 63-10 to 61-2.

Peter Gregory, Glen Wright, Stephen Kennett and Harold Manton defeated Ian William’s team 24-15.

Errol Jennings, Rob Lawrie, Ken Smith and Peter Roachock defeated Eric Pitt’s team 23-20 and David Robinson’s team defeated David O’Shaughnessy’s team 16-26.

In Division 3 Robe defeated Millicent Blue 83-12 to 60-0.

Josh Waddell, Jo Sykes, Paul Truelove and Gordon Brown defeated Andrea Radley’s team 31-24.

Vic Dawson, Trevor Wagner, Barry Bennett and Dean Woodward defeated John Drew’s team 23-21, while Bill Cook, Ross Dening, Mark Murphy and Deane Nankivell defeated Derek Pietersma’s team 29-15.

Division 1 goes to the break in fourth place and Division 3 in fifth.

The Pennant is now finished until January 28 and 29 when club championships will take place.

Twilight bowls will be played Wednesday and Thursday evenings between Christmas Day and Australia Day.
