BACK ON COURT: Junior Mid South Eastern netball action will return to the Limestone Coast in the form of a two-day round robin carnival.

MID South Eastern junior netball will return to the region in the form of a two-day carnival at the Tantanoola Netball Club.

Scheduled for the weekend of August 15 and 16, the carnival will kick off at 9am on the Saturday and take on a round robin format which will wrap up around 5pm, before finals are played Sunday afternoon.

In a busy weekend of netball, there will be close to 30 games played across the two days.

Mid South Eastern Netball Association president Sara Gray said there was a strong representation in all three grades and all clubs have nominated at least two teams.

The 17 and Under grade has all nine clubs registered, while 13 and Under will have eight sides and the 15 and Under competition will be played between six teams.

As such all six 15 and Under sides will play in Sunday’s finals to give the youngsters the chance to play more games, while the other two divisions will play a top-four finals format.

“The 15’s do not have as many minor round games because they do not have as many teams, so they will play a final six,” Gray said.

“That will be one versus six, two versus five – that sort of thing.

“They play an elimination final and that will go to a final four and the other grades will play a final four.”

All games for the weekend will be centrally timed and consist of two 12-minute halves separated by a two-minute break.

Teams will be expected to leave the court promptly at the end of each game for the next to begin in order to complete the busy fixture in a timely manner.

Despite recent government announcements regarding the reintroduction of some COVID-19 restrictions, Gray said the competition remained locked in at this stage.

“We had a meeting Monday night and we are full steam ahead ready for it, providing restrictions do not limit us,” she said.

Spectators are welcome to the event with free entry and canteen facilities available.

However, those attending are encouraged to bring their own chairs and follow current COVID-19 social distancing protocols.
