THE NOSTALGIA from his first car spurred Bruce Potter to make a spontaneous trip with his daughter to Sydney to purchase a 1970 Holden HG Premier.

With an already extensive car collection, Mr Potter had no plans to expand until he spotted the tidy HG while browsing social media one Friday night in January 2018.

Mr Potter then told his daughter Maddy to pack her bags for an unplanned trip to The Harbour City.

“She thought I was joking, but I told her I was not because I really wanted to go have a look and get this car,” Mr Potter said.

“We went and hired a trailer the next morning and I was expected to be gone for the next three to four days.

“We ended up having an absolute fantastic run with traffic and got to Sydney the same evening.”

Bypassing the city through to the north side of Sydney, Mr Potter said the pair had a thorough look over the Holden classic before returning Sunday morning to make the deal.

“We loaded it up and drove home with the intention of stopping wherever I got tired,” he said.

“It did not happen because the excitement was too much and I think we ended up getting home at around 10pm Sunday night.”

Mr Potter said his father had a HT Kingswood while he was growing up which he purchased from his for his first car.

“I have had several of the HT and HG, but never a six-cylinder before,” he said.

“My intention is to install a LS1 engine, which I have already bought and is sitting in the shed ready to be installed for the conversion.

“I just have not got around to it yet because every time I drive it, I think I should leave it the way it is a bit longer.”

Mr Potter said driving the car was relaxing and nostalgic.

“There is no real reason I need to change the motor just get, so I keep postponing it because of the nostalgia fact,” he said.

“It has 265/50/14 on the back, 225/60/14 on the front because I have always wanted to have the wide tyres.

“When I was younger, you could just not get that sort of thing underneath.”

Planning a two-tone colour scheme, Mr Potter said he wanted to car to eventually be the factory Electra Blue with a Cashmere White roof.

“I have pretty much everything ready to go, but some how, my projects continue to be pushed back,” he said.

“It will be something the kids can help me with as well.”
