STRONG RESULT: The South East women’s team came within touching distance of back-to-back Bowls SA Round Robin titles after a solid campaign in Adelaide last week.

THE Lower South East women’s team was unlucky not to claim back-to-back titles in the Bowls SA Round Robin held in Adelaide last week.

Despite winning six out of seven games, South East was narrowly edged out by Fleurieu and KI, which won the same amount of games, but scored 17 more shots.

A highlight of the annual state-wide event was the efforts of Joy Bilney, Cathy Healy, Sarah Ross and Lindy Mark.

The combination was named rink of the series after an undefeated seven-match campaign.

Other South East teams of Di Murch, Belinda Pepper, Jenny Bowering and Fleur Roachock and Jodi Kotz, Judith Grosvenor, Jenny Trengove and Deb Jones also performed with five wins and two losses each.

Heather Richards, Fiona Pearson, Helen Vawser and Judy Lack were the final quartet and they claimed four victories from seven attempts.

The region was also represented by a men’s team, which finished fifth.

Fleurieu and KI was once again the team to beat.

South East experienced an up-and-down tournament with three wins and four losses.

Bryan Roper, Wayne Ross, Ian Von Stanke and Gordon Brown made up the top-performing rink with five victories, while Adam Wilson, Glen Wright, Chris Richards and Michael Lowrie also played well after four wins.

Both teams of David O’Shaughnessy, Dean Burgoyne, Andrew Ogilvie and Gary Possingham and Greg Carpenter, Graham East, Ian Williams and Bill Bremner tasted success three
times.

Eric Pitt, Geoff Hams, Jeff Pope and Jon Buckley struggled throughout the competition and could only manage one win.
