TOP DAY OUT: Geelong football legend Billy Brownless enjoys some sustenance at the Blue Lake Golf Club’s celebrity golf day this month.

THE Blue Lake Golf Club hosted its second annual celebrity ambrose golf day recently, with 30 teams gracing the course and raising more than $12,000.

The inaugural event raised $20,000 for the Nangwarry Football and Netball Club, but this year the club focused on raising awareness and funds for Beyond Blue.

Celebrities such as Geelong football legend Billy Brownless and former Hawthorn goalkicking great Jason Dunstall helped make it a special couple of days at the club as they paid tribute to their former mate Danny “Spud” Frawley.

They enjoyed their day on the public golf links course.

Former Hawthorn forward Ben Dixon was the surprise packet as he took out the long drive on the 18th hole and the coveted nearest the pin on the par 3 fifth party hole, where he hit to within a metre of the flag.

Former touring golf professional Gary Simpson also raised some eyebrows with some long drives and accurate iron play to set up multiple birdie opportunities for his team
mate.

Former Australian PGA champion Daniel Popovic showed glimpses of his 2012 victory at Coolum, but could not help his team figure in the placings.

The overall winning side for the day finished with a score of 54 3/6, which consisted of the long-hitting Marc Dalton, along with Port MacDonnell’s Ben Wilson and John Howard.

They narrowly edged out a Limestone Coast team consisting of Jason Knight, Michael Jazepcyzk and Chris Price, who recorded a score of 55 2/6.

Third place went to Smokey VonDuve and David Johnston, who combined with Simpson for a score of 55 5/6.
