SOUTH East Women’s Football Association (SEWFA) talent was on show in Adelaide on Saturday, when Limestone Coast players took to the Valo Football Centre for the inaugural Regional Metro tournament.

At the end of each SEWFA season, players are selected by all coaches in the Senior and Under 16 competitions to put together a team of the year for both age groups.

It was those players who made the trip to Adelaide for the event, where the Senior side played against the Modbury Jets and the Under 16’s faced the Adelaide Jaguars, who finished runners-up in their league this season.

The Under 16 clash kicked off proceedings and despite the skills of the well-drilled Jaguars side, at half time the SEWFA girls held a 2-0 lead.

However, it was a game of two halves and after the break the Jaguars came out firing to score three unanswered goals.

Despite a fight back by SEWFA, the final score was 3-2 to the Jaguars, who took home the Regional Metro Shield and player of the game.

The senior contest started at 7pm against the Modbury Jets, which saw a tight first half.

As time went on the SEWFA team started to show its skill and determination to dominate the game.

For the remainder of the first half and majority of the second, the Jets could not stop the SEWFA women who scored three goals without reply.

The Jets mounted a comeback and scored a late goal, but it was not enough.

The final score saw a 3-1 win for the SEWFA team of the year, while Noelle Brown from Apollo City received the player of the game award.

Deemed a success by players and administrators, all involved are now eager for the return fixture to be held in Mount Gambier next year.

The team of the year games marked the end of an exciting and competitive year by all SEWFA players and teams.

Players, coaches, managers and all involved in the league now look forward to the off season with a few months rest before tryouts and trainings begin for the 2020 season.
