AN outbreak of a potentially lethal dog virus has been confirmed in Millicent.

The canine parvovirus is said to be highly contagious.

The Millicent Veterinary Clinic has alerted dog owners via social media.

The veterinarians have asked them to check the vaccination status of their dogs and ensure that all puppies have completed the course of initial vaccinations.

Millicent dog owner Anthony D’Onghia said the family’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was up-to-date with the vaccination requirements.

“Charlie is four years old and regularly receives the vaccinations at the local vet clinic,” he said.

Around 12 months ago, there was a canine parvovirus outbreak in Whyalla and this prompted the RSPCA to re-state its strong support for vaccinations.
