Funding granted

A GRANT will assist underage Tantanoola hockey player Georgia Clarke to represent South Australia at an interstate tournament next month.

She has been selected in the Under 18 women’s state hockey team to compete in the 2019 Women’s National Hockey Championships in Hobart, Tasmania.

Clarke is a member of the West Hockey Club which forms part of the Lower South East Hockey Association.

Her application for a $200 grant from the Wattle Range Council Sporting Foundation was endorsed at the March monthly council meeting.

While supporting the grant, Councillor Deb Agnew queried the adequacy of it.

According to Cr Agnew, there was a large amount of paperwork required by council.

“$500 would be a more suitable amount,” Cr Agnew said.

Deputy chief executive Paul Duka said the current council policy was to provide $200 to underage athletes competing in Australia and $400 for those who travelled overseas.

He said changes could be made during the coming budget preparation time.
