ACTION returns to the Borderline Speedway tonight for the Tyson Perez Memorial feature, known as the “Spud Show”.

Now in its ninth year, the night also doubles as round 10 of the Allstars 360 sprintcar series, with a strong field of 20 drivers nominated, all fighting for the coveted trophy, but also the lead in the series.

Just two more rounds remain, with little between the top runners over the season.

As it stands Mark Caruso leads the pack, but by just 37 points to Brendan Guerin.

In fact, just over 200 points separates the top five, with all those drivers nominated.

Last year’s winner Daniel Pestka will not be defending the trophy, but other names such as Eddie Lumbar, Chad Ely and Luke Dillon will certainly put on a good show.

Lumbar and Ely have “local” connections through the cars they drive, while other Limestone Coast drivers include Scott Enderl and Ben Gartner.

Brad Kellar is another to watch, this year driving the SA16 car of Jack Gartner.

With the leaderboard so tight all drivers will Chase Caruso as the series winds down.

The night itself is in honour of Australian-born Tyson Perez, a much loved speedway man who lost his life in a tragic accident in America.

Since the event’s inception just four different drivers have claimed the honours.

That includes Perez’s good friend, American Travis Rilat.

Rilat used to travel to Australia to compete in the event, with three straight wins at one stage, but a clash with his US duties means he has been absent in recent years.

Either way there is sure to be no shortage of passion on or off the track, equating to plenty of action for spectators.

In support of the 360 Sprintcars will be the Wingless brigade, with round four of the Super Series set down.

Again the action will be fast and furious, with “local” interest from Mount Gambier’s Mitchell Broome and Kirby Hillyer.

Broome comes off a seventh place at the Australian championships at Warrnambool and will look to continue that form on his home track.

Hillyer is relatively new to the sport as a driver, but has certainly shown some pace behind the wheel.

Last time the wingless sprints came to the Borderline Speedway there was no shortage of action, with Luke Weel showing plenty of pace across the night, along with Luke and Daniel Storer, with all three nominated for tonight.

A strong field of 22 drivers are listed, which will again provide plenty of excitement between the 360 races.

Also on the program will be demonstration runs from the Classics to ensure the night moves along with few disruptions on track.

With a hot day forecast, spectators are reminded to drink plenty of water to avoid any issues.

Gates open at 4pm, with racing from 6pm.
