THE result of a low-scoring thriller between East Gambier and South Gambier will be decided tomorrow when play resumes at Scott Park to complete round 10 of Barber Shield cricket.

Both sides struggled to post runs on the scoreboard as the home team batted first and was dismissed for just 116, while in reply the Demons sit at the awkward position of 4/44.

Not-out batsman Josh Thompson was the only Demon to reach double figures during a tough passage of play.

Thompson will hope to reproduce his most recent Barber Shield innings of an under-pressure 91 against West Gambier, but he will have his work cut out against a fired up Bulldogs attack which has the slightest sniff of a finals hope.

East spearhead Alex Hentschke made the ball talk last week, when he claimed three wickets during an impressive 12 overs which included six maidens.

Hentschke will be hungry for more victims as he is still to achieve a five-wicket haul this season.

Despite the early loss of four wickets, the Demons still have the likes of David Vine, Michael Sims and Robert Drenthen to pad up and make a presence at the crease.

However, with hot conditions expected and if play goes ahead, the pitch could play into the hands of the batsmen and assist South with the run chase.

With only 72 runs required, it will take a special spell of bowling from the home side if it is going to defend last week’s meagre total and keep its slim
final hopes alive.
