Mil Lel look to leash Dogs

OUT TO PERFORM: East Gambier’s Ash Dumigan managed just one run in day one of the Bulldogs’ Round 4 clash with Mil Lel, but will be out to rectify that by adding to his wicket count today when Mil Lel returns to the crease. Picture: JAMES MURPHY

WITH the first-innings points under its belt, Mil Lel will look to carry last week’s form into day two of its Round 4 battle with East Gambier at Frew Park.

The Bulldogs reached a total of just 78 before they were knocked out in the 36th over, while the hosts go into tomorrow with an overnight score of 7/99.

It was a slow start from opening batsmen Todd Carpenter and Josh Jantosh, but young gun Kaidyn Weber started the runs flowing when he made 29 before he was caught out.

Jonathan Allcock returned 20 runs, while Daniel Justin was dismissed with no score.

Heading into tomorrow, youngster Tom Nieuwerkerk sits at 17-not-out, while Jack Miller will join him at the crease with five runs overnight.

The two are yet to post massive scores this year and are both predominantly bowlers, but they will look to bolster the score and help their side back up its first-innings win.

Mil Lel is well on the way to its first victory for the season and it will do whatever it can to prevent that from slipping through its fingers.

With the ball East had a consistent performance in day one and will look to carry that momentum into tomorrow.

Youngsters Luke Allen and Emerson Marks claimed two scalps each, while Alex Hentschke, Simon Golebiowski and Ash Dumigan all have a wicket to their names.

Marks was one of just two double-figure scores for the Bulldogs with the bat and he will be out to bag another wicket or two if he can.

An outright victory for Mil Lel is not out of the question, but the remaining batsmen will need to bring their A-game.

For East it will be a matter of silencing the charge and taking the next few wickets quickly, with minimal damage to the scoreboard.
