Whitehead brushes off weather

A-GAME: Gary Dangerfield brought his best to the A Grade shoot, defeating Mick Brennan in a shootoff to claim the honours, while Bruce Parker finished third.

A TOTAL of 64 shooters braved the harsh wind and cold rain to compete in the Lake Bonney Sporting Clays 50-target event.

Malcolm Whitehead was in fine form for the event, topping his rivals in the monthly shoot.

He took the top honours, shooting 46 targets to win the high gun award.

Chris Wright did well to win the AA Grade with 45, followed by Danny Bellinger (44) and Mark Fabris (39) in second and third respectively.

A shootoff was required to determine the A Grade honours.

This saw Gary Dangerfield and Mick Brennan go head-to-head, after both finishing with 41.

The two were even for the first couple of rounds, so Brenton Ferguson who was running the shootoff moved them another 20 metres from the targets, making it even more of a challenge in the windy conditions.

Eventually, Dangerfield came out on top for the A Grade win, while third place went to Bruce Parker.

In B Grade Cameron Scheidl took out the victory with 35 from Mike Smith on 33.

A shootoff was required to determine third place and it was Graham Werchon who finished on top of Steve Bellinger to make the podium.

Werchon was on song and comfortable shooting in front of a crowd and did not miss a target in the shootoff, while Bellinger had a few nerves which were reflected in his score.

In other grades, Matt Lucas shoot 30 to secure the C Grade win from Davide Fabris and Trevor Whitehead, while Wayne Gurney defeated Geoff Lowe and Ernie Scheidl in the Veterans with a solid 38.

The Super Veterans saw Barry Hill also shoot 38 to finish on top of Peter Caskey and Peter Klieve.

In the women’s competition, Tasha Bellinger joined the 38-club to defeat Meagan Millard and Bec Kober in a dominant display.

Shak Vonstanke shot 31 to win the Sub Juniors from Brodie Vonstanke with 22.
