Red tape cut

HORTICULTURAL producers across South Australia will be able to improve their fruit quality and yields with the introduction of new regulations.

The Development (Horticultural Netting) Variations Regulations came into effect last month and will enable commercial producers to install netting without the need for planning approval through councils to protect their crops from damage incurred by birds, flying foxes, as well as hail, sun and wind burn.

Building rules consent for netting is still required.

The change will save time and money to businesses for netting systems which are now considered a fundamental part of modern horticulture production.
