KALANGADOO continued its dominance in the Mid South East Netball Association competition with yet another victory in the pre-season cup at Kongorong on Saturday.

The Magpies defeated the Roosters by 21 goals – 38 to 17 – in the grand final with a strong performance.

Kalangadoo goalies Abbey Duncan and Melissa Russell were awarded the best on court honours.

The dynamic duo were big contributors to the victory against Robe.

The Roosters would be pleased with reaching the grand final after a disappointing 2017 season, which saw them finish in eighth position on the ladder.

After a successful few seasons with Kalangadoo, Georgia Hunter has committed to playing with Robe for 2018 and was an impressive performer throughout the day.

The grand final was a close battle, but in the end the Magpies had too much class and as a result sealed the match.

However, despite the eventual result, which saw it take home the silverware, it was not all smooth sailing for Kalangadoo.

The usually dominant side went down to Kongorong in the minor rounds and had to work hard to maintain its perfect record with a grand final win.

The Hawks have been improving over the last few seasons and would still be hurting after missing out on a top four position in 2017.

Despite a victory over Port MacDonnell in the final minor round of the season, Kongorong did not advance into the four due to percentage.

The unexpected win certainly indicates it could be an interesting Mid South East netball season.

While it is sometimes difficult to get a gauge on how the season will unfold, this year’s pre-season cup has shaped up differently.

Kalangadoo is again at the pinnacle of the competition.

However, Robe looks set to muscle its way back into the top four, while Glencoe, Port MacDonnell and Kongorong also appear as strong contenders.

Despite a rather disappointing pre-season cup performance, Hatherleigh will again be a tough side to beat, while Tantanoola, Mount Burr and Nangwarry should not be underestimated.
