Golf: Pegler produces best of the day

PERFECT CONDITIONS: Sue Coulter (third) and Andrea Pegler (winner) enjoyed success in last week’s stableford round.

A SOLID field of 32 women contested a stableford round last Wednesday at Attamurra golf course.

Perfect weather conditions and a course in excellent condition complemented the scores on the day.

Andrea Pegler was clearly focused to produce 37 points and win from Jan Shanahan, who recently returned to golf after retiring, with 36 points.

Shanahan survived a count-back for the minor places from Sue Coulter.

Six players won a ball including Kerry Pedlar, Carol Davis, Faye Mainwaring, Bernie Jennings, Jennette Braun and Betty McKechnie.

The second shot on the par three, 16th hole for all grades was won by Helen Gregory (A), Andrea Pegler (B)and Mardi Bawden (C).

Kate McCormick was the most accurate on the downhill par three, eighth hole to win the pro shot prize.

Today will be a stroke round for the first qualifying round of the women’s club championships in A, B, C and D grades, with the second round to be played on March 28.

Last year’s A Grade winner Faye Mainwaring has been in good form and will look for back-to-back wins.

The top four qualifiers in each grade will play their semi finals on April 8 before the grand finals on April 15, together with the men’s finals followed by a dinner and presentation of trophies.
