Cricket: South East outclassed

Clean bowled

THE South East was no match for Adelaide Suburban in the South Australian Metropolitan Senior Country Cup one day grand final at Gliderol Stadium in the state’s capital on Sunday.

Despite having the control early through winning the toss and electing to bat first in the one-day clash, the South East struggled to keep its momentum after its first wicket fell.

Jake Schutz and Matthew McInerney opened proceedings and put together a 45-run partnership, before the latter was dismissed.

McInerney managed 32 runs from 29 balls before he was sent walking.

David Somerfield then joined Schutz at the crease.

Schutz was next to be dismissed for 16, before Somerfield (27) and Bateman (18) also returned to the sidelines.

Michael Silvy entered the clash and steadied the ship, but small scores to Dylan Clough (5) and Robbie Drenthen (8) meant South East had put big pressure on the bottom-order.

Silvy was dismissed just moments later and the South East was 7/132 and in trouble.

The batsmen down the order were feeling the pressure and struggled to make the most of scoring opportunities.

Jacob Parham reached nine before his wicket fell, while Josh Janotsh contributed just one run.

The 10th wicket fell when Michael Waters was caught out on nine.

Tom Nieuwerkerk was left wondering what could have been on an unbeaten three.

The South East reached a disappointing 155 runs and knew a big effort in the field was needed.

However, an unbeaten 93 to Jordan Kilderry put the game beyond doubt.

Adelaide Suburban surpassed the South East’s total in just 27 overs despite the latter’s best efforts.

Jorgenson, Somerfield and Nieuwerkerk all claimed a wicket each for the day.
