KYBYBOLITE has shot to the top of the premiership ladder in the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League after another stunning victory on Sunday.

The northern Tigers were easy winners over West Gambier on their home turf, claiming the victory 5.10 (40) to no score.

In the earlier games, South Gambier managed a tight win over the previously ladder-leading Millicent.

The Saints led for the first half of the game, but some straight kicking from the Demons saw three majors enough to claim the win by just three points.

East Gambier recorded its second win of the season with a hard-fought victory over the win-less North Gambier.

The Tigers pushed the Bulldogs all the way, going down by just seven points.

In another close contest, Glencoe managed to claim the win by just three points over Kalangadoo, after trailing by close to two goals at the long break.

South Gambier 3.0 (18) d Millicent 2.3 (15)

MILLICENT slipped down to second place after its first loss of the season in a close result to South Gambier.

The Demons have been knocking at the door of the top two and now only a healthy percentage keeps them in second place.

The result came after a strong first half from Millicent, with two straight goals to zero in the opening term providing a solid foundation.

From there South hit back with one major, but the Saints still found a couple of behinds to reward their hard running.

With just eight points the deficit at the long break, the Demons found some run and closed the gap thanks to another goal, while holding Millicent scoreless for the term.

The final term approached with only two points separating the two sides and the game was there for the taking.

South remained on target up forward and recorded another goal, while the Saints could only muster a behind, going down by three points.

Tess Clark, Imogen Walker and Jasmine White scored a goal each for the victors, with Claudia Edmonds, Riley Buckingham, Walker, Sarah Milne, Clark and Kate Kourmouzis named best.

For Millicent Kimmi Varcoe and Olivia Fuller shared the two goals, while Shelby Settle, Varcoe and Madi Thwaites were named best.

East Gambier 3.8 (26) d North Gambier 3.1 (19)

THE second game of the day saw the Bulldogs claim a hard-fought win.

The southern Tigers took the game up to their more fancied rivals, succumbing in the end by seven points.

However, the game was in the balance until the final half.

East’s Kiara Beck helped her side with two timely goals, but the difference could have been far greater had the Bulldogs kicked straight up forward.

A total of eight behinds to East helped keep North in the contest, but they took their chances and were more efficient in front of goals, with three majors and just the one minor keeping them in the game.

In the end the Bulldogs simply wanted the game more, bottling the play up and not allowing the Tigers any room to move.

Mahli Pannenberg joined Beck with a single goal for East, while for North, Lorelle Walker, Kimberley McKinnon and Claudia Gill shared the three goals.

Bo Creek, Beck, Annabel Plunkett, Niahm Graney and Sara Smith were named best for East, while for North, Ella Firth, Walker, Samantha Scott, Alyssa Thomas, Rhiannon Thomas and Zaliah Dakin were given the nod.

Glencoe 3.6 (24) d Kalangadoo 3.3 (21)

THE third game of the day saw yet another thriller, with Glencoe just having enough to claim the victory over Kalangadoo.

Just three points separated the two sides at the final siren, with the come-from-behind victory testament to the desire of the All Stars.

By the first break the game was locked up at one goal each, but from there Kalangadoo threatened to blow the game apart.

A 13-point second term – to the All Stars two behinds – provided a handy lead at the long break for Kalangadoo, but from there Glencoe found some form.

The third quarter saw two goals and two behinds from the All Stars to steal the lead and hold on from there.

Both sides scored two behinds in the final stanza, with Kalangadoo unable to bridge the gap, giving the All Stars their second win of the season.

Simone MacDonald managed two goals for the victors, with Christina Patzel adding another, while for Kalangadoo Abbey Shannon, Brianna Devine and Emmason Ilsley shared the three goals.

Libby Howe-Morgan, Emma Hartung-Gleeson, Kate Tomkins, Adele Cooper and MacDonald were named best for Glencoe, while for Kalangadoo Chloe Long, Shannon, Narelle Ryan, Lisa Ilsley, Emmason Ilsley, Devine and Holly Watson were given the nod.

Kybybolite 5.10 (40) d West Gambier 0.0 (0)

KYBYBOLITE hit its straps early in the final game of the day, kicking out to a 16-point lead at the first break.

The Roos had little to offer, but their defence held strong in what could have been a bigger early deficit.

The second term saw more inaccurate kicking from the northern Tigers the only saviour for the Roos, with Kyby adding a further one major and three minor scores.

The half-time deficit read 25 points, with West unable to find a way to score.

That continued on after the long break, with Kyby again inaccurate in front of the big sticks.

This time only three further minor scores were recorded, with the added pressure from the Roos holding the Tigers at bay.

However, the final term saw Kyby again take control, adding a further two major scores to seal the game, while keeping the Roos scoreless throughout.

Susie Maber was on fire in front of goals for the victors, bagging four goals, while Mardi Riley added the remaining major.

Maber was awarded best player for her efforts, with Georgie Irvine, Tyler Atkinson, Katie Brodie, Casey McElroy and Lily Gill joining her.

Best for West were Cody Millard, Melanie Deak, Amanda Banks, Darcie Kuhl, Emma Lynch and Laurel Baxter.
