Golf: Malin and Hunt tie for Saturday honours

KLINTON Malin and Bryan Hunt shared round-of-the-day honours at the Attamurra golf course on Saturday, with both posting three-under-the-card nett 69’s.

Malin claimed the A Grade medal and Hunt the C Grade.

Tim MacLean was alone on nett 70 to finish runner up in C Grade, while Trent Eitzen, Mitchell Handford and Todd Lillicrap all posted 71’s.

Eitzen claimed second in A Grade, while Handford claimed the B Grade medal by count-back over an unlucky Lillicrap.

In D Grade Haydn Dow claimed the medal on nett 75 in front of Callum Harvey’s nett 76.

Players required 74 or better to claim a ball with winners including Craig Foster, Bill Degaris, Darryl Morgan, Kym Sykes, Mark Winterfield, Jeff Hodge, David McPherson, Darren Bilney, Ross Bond, Max Tollner, Shane Brook, Richard Gosling, Graham Thomas, Michael Cutting, Russel Oehms, Darren Coxon, Kevin Cook, Robert McClelland and Adrian Ballintyne.

Birdie-twos were claimed by 16 players, with Brook grabbing a pair.

Others with their eye in included David Anderson, Russell Lewis, Joe Clements, Jason Mann, Gary Button, Darren Harding, Brad Von Duve, Wayne Elliot, Chris Patterson, Leigh McCracken, Tom Jellesma, Gregory Smyth, Bond, Thomas and Handford.

Thomas took the pro–shot on the 16th hole, while Jellesma claimed the shot-of-the-day honours on the eighth.

McIntyre too strong

HELEN McIntyre had the round of the day for the women on Saturday with a 73 nett, three strokes clear of Lois Harvey on 76.

Betty McKechnie, Penne Saffin and Helen Gregory finished third, fourth and fifth respectively on 77, 78 and 79.

Gregory made the most of the day, taking both the pro-shot on the 16th and the shot-of-the-day on the eighth.

Naracoorte Holden Scramble

THE Mount Gambier Golf Club and Blue Lake Golf Links joined forces on Sunday to claim the Naracoorte Holden Scramble event.

The team of Bruce Morale, Mathew Fenwick, Michael Dedonatis and Tim Kenny won the day by just a third of a stroke.

The course was in excellent condition, while the hospitality and amenities provided were first class.

The team will next be off to Adelaide in March for state finals and the opportunity to make the national finals in Queensland.

Perfect conditions for Stableford

IDEAL conditions saw another excellent field of 95 keen golfers on Thursday.

Gregory Smyth had the round of the day to claim the $100 winner’s cheque, with an excellent 45 points that saw him five clear of a group on 40.

Keith Couzner, Graham Patterson and John Maxwell all posted 40 points, with Couzner grabbing second place on count-back.

Brian Simmonds and Barry Brook posted 39 points, with a trio of players, Nick Black, David Turnbull and Mount Coolum visitor Charles Brkic, all posting 38.

Players required 35 points and a good back nine, with winners including Peter Buckingham, Michael Rees, Ross Bond, Peter Lock, Ian Ritter, Klinton Malin, Ken Whitehead, Chris Ryan, Russell, Oehms, Jim Pegler, Brendon Curley, and Jeff Hodge.

Only six players managed a birdie-two, including Nick Moretti, Dave Boyce, Digger Richardson, McIntyre, Whitehead and Buckingham.

Nearest the pin on the 16th hole belong to McIntyre and shot-of-the-day honours went to Peter Gardner on the eighth.
