Division 1

Mount Gambier RSL Red 93/16 d Kalangadoo 54/0

THE Division 1 Mount Gambier RSL Red team was too strong for Kalangadoo when it made the trip to face its Round 14 opponent.

Jamie Lambert, Ralph Stafford, Michael Fox, and Graham Ellis led the way for their side’s overall win, as they defeated Kym Stewart’s four 33-18.

The next best margin saw Robert Corner, Deane Wilkinson, Chris Waugh and Andy Ashby account for Peter Lowe’s rink 28-14, while Jason Kuring, Peter Roachock, Neil Tobin and Rex Heins finished with a 32-22 victory over Gavin Rowe’s four.

Currently positioned one point behind Mount Gambier Red on the premiership ladder, the question is yet to be answered who will secure the home-ground first semi final.

Mount Gambier RSL Blue 91/14 d Naracoorte 58/2

WHILE the Division 1 Red side is securely in the top four, the Mount Gambier RSL Blue team kept its finals hope alive with a strong win against third-placed side Naracoorte on Saturday.

The best performers were Dougie McPhail, Zac Pearson, Ben Masters and Glenn Wright who led all game and powered home to finish 39-11 against Ron Garton’s team.

Tim Wrightson, Ian MacIntosh, Gary Feast and Strawb Masters had the better of Graham East’s four, despite a late surge from the opposition.

The Naracoorte team scored nine shots in sight of the finish, but Master’s rink rallied and won 32-22.

Gary Bowering, Fiona Pearson, Greg Whitehead and Ron Ploenges had a hard-fought battle against Ian William’s four.

Dropping three four’s close together in the second half proved too costly and they finished with a 20-25 loss.

Division 2

BOTH Division 2 Mount Gambier RSL sides met on Saturday and the Red team was able to redeem itself from its Round 6 loss with a win.

Blue’s Karen Doman and John Spehr again skippered wins as they both did back in Round 6, but it was the final rink which decided the outcome.

Ian Moulden has now become a regular skipper in the Red side and this week he led the handy combination of Paul Griffiths, Graeme Smith and Graham Dent to defeat their Blue opponents by 17 shots.

His rink’s win was sufficient to pull the Red side over the line and take home the overall honours.

Division 3

Mount Gambier RSL Red 83/14 d Mount Gambier 60/2

THE Mount Gambier RSL Red Division 3 team hosted Mount Gambier on Saturday for an overall win.

John Heaver, Fleur Roachock, Gary Fox and Tony Freeman were in complete control against John Kentish’s four and scored freely to win 37-14.

This win decided the final result as the other rinks both recorded draws.

After leading by a significant margin, John Preece, Ron Cook, John Maher and Bob White saw their game slip from their grasp.

However, they managed to find one shot on the last end to salvage a draw against Carlo Bertetic’s team, 24-24.

On the third rink, Phillip Wilson, Brenton Wittwer, Merna Whitehead and Shirley McIntyre had the opposite scenario, coming from behind for most of their game to snatch a draw against George Kuhl’s four, 22-22.

Millicent Red 80/14 d Mount Gambier RSL Blue 72/2

THE Mount Gambier RSL Blue side suffered a nine-shot loss when it travelled to meet the higher ranked Millicent Red team on Saturday.

Don Whitmore, Ken McCormick, Helen Moulden and Eileen Cruise survived a strong challenge from Peter Hyland, Mary Clifford, Dawn Bellman and David Taylor to win 32-24, but their eight-shots up were not enough to cover the other two games.

David Klem’s team went down 23-28, while Les James’ side finished with a 16-28 defeat.
