ROUND 1 and 2 of the World Series Sprintcar Title – which were ran in conjunction with Speedweek – have supplied engine roaring entertainment to spectators at Murray Bridge Speedway on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

The opening round was won by Australian champion Kerry Madsen who powered his way through the field to take away the $10,000 prize money.

Madsen started fifth on the grid in the A-Main, but passed Jason Johnson, Matt Egel, Ryan Jones and Jye Okeeffe to claim top step of the podium.

The national champion was closely followed by Jones and Johnson who finished second and third respectively.

While Madsen was celebrating, it was a night Mount Gambier drivers Glen Sutherland and Steven Lines would rather forget.

South East competitor Jake Tranter finished best out of the trio and completed the A-Main, seeing the chequered flag in 12th place.

He powered his way from sixth to fifth in his opening heat, before advancing from sixth to third in his second.

His reasonable finishes handed him sixth on the B-Main starting grid, but he had no intentions of settling for that and made his way up to fourth by the finish line.

Tranter started 18th in the A-Main, but he was able to stay out of the carnage and move up to a credible 12th by the end of the race.

Sutherland also reached the main event, but started further up the grid, out of 14th.

However, he was forced to settle for a did not finish, along with four other competitiors.

The contracted driver was caught up in an incident which cut down his front tyre – a disappointing end to his first night.

For Lines it was a unfortunate first hit out with his new Horrell Motosport team.

After starting fourth and finishing in the same position in his first heat and progressing from fourth to second in his second hit out, the

Mount Gambier driver was forced to battle for a position in the big showdown through the B-Main.

Lines started 12th out of the grid and began to progress through the pack before another driver spun.

He had nowhere to go and as a result also spun.

Lines restarted at the rear and move forward a few positions before the race was declared short, which ended their night early.

At the time of going to print Round 2 of the World Series Sprintcar Title was yet to be completed.
