Shooting: Near-perfect end to year recorded

ON TARGET: South East Field and Game Christmas Shoot high gun winner Mark Fabris with sponsor Dane Hastings.

SHOTS fired at the South East Field and Game Christmas Shoot when 112 competitors nominated for the 50-target sporting clay event held in perfect conditions.

Lake Bonney’s Mark Fabris was the top shooter for the day in the final event of the year.

Fabris shot a perfect score of 25 in his first round on the Ken Atkin designed course and only missed one target on his second round to take out the high gun and also be awarded the first qualifier for next year’s champion of champions shoot off.

The experienced Ron Rhook finished a solitary target behind Fabris to win AA Grade from Danny Bellinger with Gavin Dyson rounding out in third.

Portland visitor Geoff McLean won A Grade by three targets from Dane Hastings who tied with Charles Wallis, but took out second on count-back.

B Grade was taken out by Ross Stevens from the Scheidl Brothers with Cam pipping Curtis on countback.

Graham Fennell won C Grade from Tim VonStanke and Rob Michalski back in third.

The Veterans class was claimed by Lake Bonney’s Wayne Gurney by one target over Graham Lamond, while Neville Kent rounded out the placings in third.

Bob Jones beat his old rival Kevin Dyson by one target to win Super veterans with Barry Hill back in third.

Janette Densley rounded out a year of continuous improvement to get the better of her rival Tash Bellinger to win the Ladies by two targets, while Kellie Peterson took out the minor placing.

State junior skeet representative Will Vickery won the Juniors from Max Crook, while another good roll-out of Sub Juniors saw Shak VonStanke take out the win from young rivals Ethan Hellyer and Declan Wright.

A novelty 20 target Side x Side event was held which gave shooters the chance to use some older style shotguns on clay targets and it was Atkin who won on a countback from Jeremy Kent and Fabris.
