AFTER 11 rounds, the Mount Gambier RSL club goes to the Christmas break with its three Red sides in top position in Division 1, 2 and 3 of the Lower South East Bowling Association’s Saturday Open Pennant.
However, there are still seven rounds to play in that time anything can happen.
Division 1
Mount Gambier RSL Red 75/14 d Naracoorte RSL 61/2
MOUNT Gambier RSL Red continued its dominance in the Division 1 competition with a 14-shot win over Naracoorte RSL on the road.
Andy Ashby’s rink provided a buffer for the other two close games before Graham Ellis’ rink also broke free in the latter stages.
Rex Heins’ four finished 20-22 against Joe McGrath’s side, while Ellis’ team defeated David O’Shaughnessy’s 27-17.
Though Ashby’s four went scoreless from the 19th end, they defeated Greg Mark’s four 28-22.
Mount Gambier RSL Blue 92/16 d Kalangadoo 52/0
MOUNT Gambier RSL Blue had a strong win against Kalangadoo on the grass.
All rinks fired from the start of play and were not challenged throughout the game.
In the end Mount Gambier RSL Blue claimed a 40-shot win, which allowed it to move back into the top four.
Strawb Master’s team made it six-in-a-row with their 31-13 win over Peter Lowe’s four, while Ron Ploenges’ crew defeated Wayne Dowdell’s 31-17 and Ben Masters’ side won 30-22 against Kym Stewart’s.
Division 2
Mount Gambier RSL Red 83/16 d Frances 52/0
FRANCES struggled against Mount Gambier RSL Red who are the current Division 2 front-runners.
Ian Moulden’s four won 20 of the 25 ends on their way to defeating Doug Buttery’s team 34-11.
Noel Miller’s four finished off well in a hard-fought tussle against Bruce Pretlove’s side to win 29-22.
Wayne Legutko’s team returned to the winning side of the ledger with a one shot win over Ken Montgomery’s four 20-19.
Naraccoorte 76/9 d Mount Gambier RSL Blue 76/7
MOUNT Gambier RSL Blue missed a golden opportunity to beat a side above it when it finished poorly in the closing stages of Saturday’s game against Naracoorte.
Up by 15 shots with three ends to play, the RSL Blue’s just salvaged a draw in the finish, 76-all.
John Spehr’s team ended up being the only winning rink, defeating Terry Mahney’s 27-21.
Division 3
Mount Gambier RSL Red 98/16 d Millicent Blue 40/0
MILLICENT Blue was not match for Mount Gambier RSL Red who significantly outscored its opponent on all three rinks to win by 58 shots.
Albie McIntyre’s four won 36-13 against Sarah Ross’ team, while Bob White and his side were too strong for Bill Burdon’s, winning 30-12 and Tony Freeman’s crew also more than doubled Glenn Brown’s team 32-15.
Mount Gambier RSL Blue 95/16 d Port MacDonnell 39/0
MOUNT Gambier RSL Blue amassed a whopping 95 shots in its game against Port MacDonnell to move up two places in a crowded middle section of the ladder.
They worked hard on all three rinks to win by 56 shots at the end of play.
