Back at the 19th: Morgan tees up A Grade victory

ON THE MONEY: Ben Robinson was pleased with his 43 points on Thursday at the Attamurra golf course, which equated to 72 off-the-stick for the seven-marker.

PERFECT conditions greeted players on Saturday at the Attamurra golf course, with 105 teeing up for the Christmas ham day – stroke.

Leigh McManus and Thomas Miles posted the rounds of the day with nett 66’s, with the pair dominating D Grade and McManus taking first place on count-back.

Daryl Morgan and John Hopkins were hot on their tail with nett 67’s, Morgan’s score being off-the-stick for the scratch marker for first place in A Grade.

Hopkins claimed the C Grade voucher in front of Seth McRae, who, along with Matt Bryant and Russell Lewis, carded nett 68’s.

Bryant and Lewis finished first and second in B Grade.

Players needed 71 nett or better to win a ball with winners including Joe Clements, Andrew Stark, Mike Atwell, Rob McIntyre, Craig Foster, Nick Moretti, Kevin Cook, Peter Fox, Parker Smith, Garry McCormack, Ben Robinson, Charlie Finch, Selwyn Humphries, Tim McLean, Thomas Madigan, Setio Shanahan, Paul Reade, John Shirley and Bob Dalgarno.

Birdie-twos were claimed by 11 players, with Ken Whitehead grabbing a couple.

Others to win a ball included Trent Eitzen, Jim Leane, Peter Miller, Matty Knowles, Mitchell Handford, Leigh McCracken, Cook, Stark, McLean and Robinson.

Tim McLean was the toast of his group after taking both the pro-shot on the 16th and the highly prized shot-of-the-day on the signature eighth hole.

Women’s Stroke

A FIELD of 17 women also enjoyed the perfect conditions, with Faye Mainwaring carding the round of the day with nett 74.

Julie Robinson and Jade Delaney posted nett 75’s, with Robinson grabbing second place on count-back.

Lois Harvey posted 77 and Sue Coulter nett 78, while Jane Lamont claimed shot-of-the-day on the eighth hole.

Round of the day for Robinson

BEN Robinson had the round of the day on Thursday with a excellent 43 points.

This equates to a 72 off-the-stick for the seven marker.

The square-with-card 72 was composed of three bogeys, plus countering birdies on the first hole, the 11th and 14th.

Robinson showed his mettle after turning at one-over 37, then he came home in one-under the card 35, to post his personal best score and collect the $100 winner’s voucher.

Kym Sutherland and Terry Janeway posted 42 points each, with Sutherland taking second place by count-back.

Jack Peacock and Peter Berkefeld rounded out the top five on 41 points apiece.

Players needed 38 points to claim a ball except for the lucky trio of Peter Waters, Jim Leane and Brian Ashby who scraped through as best of the 37’s.

Authentic winners included Henni Nieuwendyk, Robert McLellan, Rob McIntyre, Peter Collie, Graham Thomas, Tony McGregor, Malcolm Treloar, John Shirley, Graham Allen, Ken Whitehead, Greg Hudson, Peter Lock, David Douglas, Ron Walker and big-hitting Darren Harding.

Only six of the 106-strong field managed a birdie-two.

Those with their eye in were, Brendon Curley, Jeff Hodge, Barry Brook, Greg Hudson, David Douglas and Winston Prowse.

Douglas also claimed the pro-shot on the 16th hole, while Prowse claimed shot-of-the-day on the eighth.

Driscoll Summer Cup

THURSDAY was round seven of the eclectic event and still sees Graham Thomas leading on 230, with Henni Nieuwendyk 222, Peter Lock 221 and John Sandery 217 all hot on his tail.
