IN last week’s round of the Friday Pennant competition, two Mount Gambier RSL teams defeated Naracoorte, while the other two went down to Port MacDonnell.
Division 1
Mount Gambier RSL 61/13 d Naracoorte 38/1
REVERSING its loss in Round 1, Mount Gambier RSL Division 1 Red soundly defeated Naracoorte when the two teams met on the RSL greens last Friday.
Glenda Dalton, Val Anderson, Maryke Heaver and Veronica Opie jumped away quickly to lead throughout against Jean Biggins, Heather Whitehead, Fay Vogel and Chris Murphy.
The final score saw the RSL with a solid 37-14 win.
In a closer game, Jenny Bowering, Nancye Wilson, Karen Doman and Beryl Messenger played mostly catch-up to Jenny Measday, Margaret Crane, Sue Bennett and Di Brown.
At 15-24 with four ends to go, the RSL surprised the visitors with a nine-shot turn around to finish with a 24-all draw.
Port MacDonnell 64/14 d Mount Gambier RSL Blue 34/0
IT was not the day Mount Gambier RSL Blue had hoped for when they played Port MacDonnell at the Bay for Round 9.
Kym Franklin, Graeme Smith, Barb Winterfield and Shirley McIntyre were unable to make inroads in their game against Sharon Perryman, Robyn Burley, Carol Schmidt and Judy Grosvenor.
The guest team struggled throughout and lost 13-33.
The rink of Phillip Wilson, Jane Crowder, Shirley Gifford and Kath Hearne stayed level with Barb Milstead, Jan Dowdell, Joy Bilney and Heather Richards in the first session.
However, after dropping seven shots on the first end after lunch, they fell off the pace and eventually suffered a 21-31 defeat.
Division 2
Mount Gambier RSL 63/14 d Naracoorte 28/0
THE Division 2 Mount Gambier RSL side was too strong for its Naracoorte guests, as it claimed a convincing win last Friday.
It was all the RSL’s way as it won on both rinks, with Linley McDonald, Wynne Turner, Pam Klem and Lyn Chirgwin the standouts as they trounced Sue Drogemuller, Colleen Fox, Denise Amy and Lyn Williams 41-8.
Liz Schroder, Carmel McQuade, Barb Smith and Eileen Cruise led for all but four ends against Sandra Williams, Ann Barker, Ruth McInnes and Coralie Allchurch.
Even so, the finish was tight and the hosts claimed a narrow 22-20 victory.
Division 3
Port MacDonnell 58/12 d Mount Gambier RSL 34/2
THE tables were turned when Mount Gambier RSL played Port MacDonnell on its home surface.
With the RSL enjoying a strong win in Round 1, it fell short at the Bay to suffer a defeat in Round 9.
A see-sawing game was had by Nancy Horrigan, Bev Famularo, Lola McKenzie and Helen Moulden, but they were able to record a narrow 23-21 win over Karen Peterson, Shirley Taylor, Betty Barrett and Heather Fox.
However, Kathy MacIntosh, Mike Smith, Janet Forster and Marg Finnis found it hard against Lyn Jones, Jean Fisher, Kay Feast and Cheryle Dodridge, with the Port MacDonnell team out-bowling the guests to claim a 37-11 triumph.
