Hockey gun given responsibility

LEADER: Mount Gambier budding hockey star Liam Delaney will take a leadership role in the South Australian School Sports Under 12 hockey team at the Pacific School Games, which begin on Sunday in Adelaide after he was selected as vice captain at the side’s final training session recently.

MOUNT Gambier youngster Liam Delaney continues to climb the representative ladder, being awarded vice captain honours in the South Australian School Sports Under 12 hockey team at the Pacific School Games, which starts Sunday in Adelaide.

Delaney who plays locally for Redbacks and Strickers Hockey club and attends St Martins Lutheran College was chosen from a large pool of players.

He is honoured to again wear the South Australian strip and has taken part in six weeks of intense training in preparation for the tournament in Adelaide.

Delaney was notified during the team’s last training that he had been selected as vice captain of the side.

It is Delaney’s second year representing the state for this team.

He has also just returned from Perth where he represented South Australia in the Under 13 State team at the national titles.

Delaney will help captain the team with Adelaide Hockey Club’s Tom Wycherley.
