Back at the 19th: Weather adds extra challenge to Attamurra

B GRADE WINNER: Paul Reade did enough to claim the B Grade honours in the monthly medal round at the Attamurra golf course last week.

TURBULENT conditions greeted a field of 98 on Saturday at the Mount Gambier Golf Club for the monthly medal stroke round.

The occasional shower, gusty conditions and medal tees made scoring difficult, which saw Barry Brook and Matt Knowles tie for round-of-the-day honours, with both players posting nett 71’s to take home their respective grade’s monthly medals.

Brook was best in C Grade in front of Bob Dalgarno on nett 72 and Knowles in A Grade ahead of Joe Clements, also on nett 72.

Paul Reade claimed the B Grade medal on count-back from Brendan Curley, both posting nett 74’s and in D Grade Richard Farrance took the medal with nett 79 in front of Graham Thomas on nett 84.

Players required nett 77 or better to claim a ball, with winners including Daryl Morgan, David Anderson, Peter Dempsey, Jason Shanks, Tony McGregor, Stacey Parsons, Peter Lock, Adrian

Ballintyne, Paul Kenny, Jason Mann, Parker Smith, John Hopkins, Nick Black, Thomas Madigan, Darren Bilney, Bryan Hunt and Michael Griffiths.

Only four players managed a birdie-two, with Michael Cutting, John Shirley, Bilney and Curley all on target.

Kent Comely claimed the pro-shot on the 16th hole and shot-of-the-day belonged to Peter Gardner on the eighth.

Close finish for women

JULIE Robinson and Maxine McGregor tied for round-of-the- day honours, both posting nett 77’s, with Robinson taking first place on count-back.

Camilla Knowles, Yvonne Shirley and Sue Coulter finished respectively only separated by count back on nett 79.

Sue Coulter grabbed the only birdie-two for the day and Jane Lamont claimed the shot of the day on the eighth hole.

Thursday Stableford

HOT and humid conditions greeted 93 players on Thursday and once again the scoring was as hot as the weather.

Max Hellyer had the round of the day with a sensational 46 points, which saw him three clear of Lyndsay Copeman, who claimed second on count-back from Richard Gosling on 43 points.

Gosling’s 43 equated to a three under the card 69 off the stick, for the four-marker.

Players needed 39 points to win a ball, except for Michael Griffiths who scraped though as the best of the 38’s.

More legitimate winners included Graeme Payton, Henni Nieuwendyk, Wayne Sampson, Peter Waters, Matt Bryant, John Sandery, Stephen Herbert, Tim Kenny, Brian Shanahan, Jeff Hodge, Bob Dalgarno, Michael Rees and Patrick Dempsey.

Only seven players managed a birdie-two, including Ross Bond, Neil Richardson, Tony McGregor, Henry Forbes, Hodge, Nieuwendyk and Kenny.

The pro-shot on the 16th hole belonged to Nick Moretti and shot-of-the-day honours went to Dave Boyce with a cracking four-iron on the short eighth.
