A NUMBER of diverse fitness activities and education health programs took place at Penola High School recently in celebration of PE Week.

Students were involved in Lunch Time Sports, a Come and Try Bowls day, Touch Football and Volleyball as well as participating in a school-run Health, Sport and Fitness Quiz in home group each morning.

This year the House Captains ran Lunch Time Sports on Tuesday and Thursday while students Caleb Lythgo, Jack Kain and Jesse Martin organised Soccer in the Sunshine on Tuesday.

Players were split into two teams and minimal rules made for a fun filled lunch time where student Joe French showcased his impressive goal keeping skills.

On Thursday students Emily Winter, Joanne Drury and Katie Colbert ran Volleyball in the stadium and the girls had most of the school playing with some great skills on show.

To finish off the week on Friday the Festival of Sport was held, an annual event which takes place on the school grounds.

Over 200 students from Penola, Millicent and Mount Gambier competed in Year 8 and 9 Touch Football and Year 10 Volleyball.

With low numbers in Year 10, the students decided to form a mixed team so they were able to play.

The Year 8 and 9 girls had a very enjoyable day, showcasing new skills and enjoying getting more of the ball.

Highlights from the girls teams were students Alex Attenborough and Ella Hutchesson both scoring two tries each.

Student Amy Whitehouse played some impressive Touch Football all day resulting in her being invited to the All Stars team to play against the teachers at the end of the day.

The Year 8 boys also impressed, with some excellent passages of play on display.

The group showed great team work all day, with everyone improving their skills and tactical thinking.

The Year 9 boys’ team started the day off strongly, showing their development from last year.
