WBFL Under 15: Saints fly premiership flag

RUNNING HARD: Millicent’s Zac Bradley kicks forward in the Saints Western Border football Under 15 grand final victory over South Gambier at Island Park, Casterton on Saturday.

A DOMINANT two quarters of football saw Millicent claim the Under 15 Western Border Football League premiership, with a 31-point win over South Gambier.

While the first term was an arm wrestle, the Saints managed to hold a slender four-point advantage at the first break.

The Demons were first on the scoreboard late in the opening term, but the Saints hit back on the siren, with Conall Schultz claiming a mark in front and converting for the lead.

From there Millicent stepped up its work rate, with three major scores to break the game open.

Jackson Devereux found one of his three goals late in the term for the Demons against the flow of play, but by the half-time break the margin had increased to 17 points, with a big job ahead of South.

Mid way through third quarter Millicent’s Jaden Grosser kicked a long goal to put the side further ahead and when Zac Bradley kicked another, the Millicent crowd erupted, knowing they were all-but home.

By the final break the margin was 36 points and the Saints simply needed to go through the motions.

But the Demons were determined to play the game out, forcing Millicent to remain composed.

In the end the margin was too great to overcome, with the Saints running out convincing victors.

Tunkin was awarded best-on-ground for his efforts, which included three goals.

Grosser contributed two goals as well for the Saints, while Harry Bigmore, Zac Bradley and Schultz added singles.

For South, Devereux was the only multiple goal kicker, with three to his name.

Best for the victors were Tunkin, Billy Shanks, Grosser, Bradley, Hugh Armfield, Stuart Dickenson and Bigmore,

For the Demons, best were Oscar Adams, Josh McGregor, Ethan Habets, Sam Dukalskis, Dylan Fishpool and Devereux.

BEST: Under 15 best-on-ground Harry Tunkin.
