AFTER an eight-week break from competition, Mount Gambier motorcycle racer Levi Day returned to the track in style, continuing his recent form by claiming two podium finishes in the Ducati TriOptions Cup at Snetterton in the UK.

The success came on the back of his first podium of the year in the last round at Oulton Park, suggesting he is settling well into the new bike and format this season.

Day had previously managed podiums at Snetterton while competing in the British Supersport Evo series and headed into the round hoping to repeat those performances on the Ducati 959 Panigale.

All was on target from the outset, with a solid performance in qualifying that saw Day start from the front row of the grid.

“I managed to string some good laps together (in qualifying) on the busy circuit with over 40 riders out there, to put it third on the grid, the final spot on the front row,” he said.

“This was my first front row for the year and I’m generally happy with my starts, that I was confident I could get away well in the race.”

That confidence became reality when Day managed the hole-shot on the field and led into turn one for the first raced.

However, he was soon overtaken and battling for the final podium position.

But Day’s pace started to pick up as the race progressed and he crossed the line in third place.

“I was really pleased to finish the race off strong and get another podium for the season and good points for the championship,” Day said.

The final race for the weekend saw Day again leading from the line, but after dropping off the pace slightly and loosing the tow from the two leading competitors, was in another battle for third place.

After six laps an incident caused a red flag and the race was called short, with Day then in third to claim his second podium for the weekend.

“I’m stoked to get the double podium over the weekend and score some good points in the championship,” he said.

“My team worked hard all weekend to give me a great bike to compete with and I must thank them.

“We have Brands Hatch GP in three weeks I’m continuing to work hard to keep this momentum going and fight for race wins and more podiums.”

Day currently sits in fourth place on the season standings.
