Hoon driver fined

A MOUNT Gambier man who revved his engine before performing a 10-second burnout has been fined.

The 23 year old appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court via video-link on Tuesday for driving a motor vehicle when unauthorised to do so.

The prosecutor said the defendant was seen on Lake Terrace East spinning the wheels of a Holden Commodore on June 17 at around 9pm.

“He was revving the engine loud and spun the wheels of the car for around 10 seconds,” the prosecutor said.

“He has never been licensed.”

The defendant told the police he performed the burnout out of stupidity.

The court heard the man had never obtained a driver’s licence as he had moved around a lot as a child.

Magistrate Maria Panagiotidis warned the defendant to not drive again until he obtained a licence and imposed a $791 fine.
