THE Millicent and District Hospital will open its doors to guided tours for the first time in 20 years this weekend.

Sunday’s open day and fete will also feature live music, children’s activities and a number of food and speciality stalls.

Nursing director Michelle de Wit said the open day would increase connection between the public and the health service.

“We are inviting the community to explore the facility so they are aware of the medical staff and resources that we have available,” she said.

“We want to assure people they’re getting quality care.”

Ms de Wit said the fete would support the hospital, but also provide more entertainment for families.

Limestone Coast Local Health Network chief executive Ngaire Buchanan said the event was a welcome return for the network, with all funds raised going towards ongoing refurbishments at the facility.

“This exciting event is a whole community effort and we’re grateful to have support from many community groups such as local auxiliary groups and the Health Advisory Council to make the day possible,” she said.

“This is an opportunity for staff and the community to engage with each other and be part of an event that celebrates the hard work and dedication of Millicent Hospital and Health Service.

“We encourage everyone to come along to continue strengthening the connection between our local health services and the wider community while enjoying time with family and friends.”

The event will also feature Millicent Runners Group fun run, a vintage car display and a “bandage off” competition.

A market will be held with stalls featuring recycled fashion, home items, plants, crafts and candles.

The open day and the fete will be held from 10.30am to 3pm and is an all-ages event.
