A MOUNT Gambier man who hindered police on two separate occasions has been told to change his attitude towards the authorities.
Gary Strong, 43, appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he received a suspended sentence from the court.
The prosecution said police attended a residence on May 10 after receiving a call-out in relation to mental health.
Strong was at the neighbouring residence and when leaving the property, the person police were dealing with made a comment about Strong’s partner.
The defendant became enraged about the comment and began hindering police as a result.
The defendant’s lawyer said Strong was frustrated the police were not doing anything about the comment.
Another incident occurred on June 6, when police attended a property to investigate a stolen bath tub.
They began questioning Strong’s partner and as a result the defendant became highly argumentative with police.
The defendant’s lawyer said his client admitted he was being a nuisance after involving himself.
He was charged with another count of hindering police.
Magistrate Teresa Anderson said it was clear there was an ongoing attitude the defendant had towards the police.
“There is not anything that has taught you to be cooperative with police, your attitude has not changed,” Magistrate Anderson said.
She encouraged the defendant to change his attitude and structured a sentence to help him do so.
Strong was sentenced to one month and 24 days imprisonment, which was suspended on him entering into a $500, two-year good behaviour bond.
He will be required to be supervised for nine months of the bond.
In addition, Strong was ordered to complete 100 hours of community service within 12 months.
