Shop stop lands woman in custody

A MOUNT Gambier woman who was on home detention bail has been remanded in custody after she went shopping instead of returning directly home from court last week.

Joanne Frances Elliott, 50, appeared in police custody in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court after she was found in breach of her home detention conditions.

The prosecution said Elliott was given a leave pass to attend court on November 7, however went shopping instead of returning home after the court hearing.

Elliott said she attended shops to obtain a new charger for her bracelet, some cheap tobacco and fabric for knitting.

Magistrate Teresa Anderson said the leave pass was for court only and therefore there was no good excuse for the bail breach.

“You have demonstrated you cannot comply with home detention bail,” Magistrate Anderson said.

Elliot was remanded in custody with the matter adjourned until November 23.
