Women hospitalised following intersection crash

THE Pick Avenue and Jubilee Highway intersection has claimed more victims after two women were sent to hospital for observation following another crash at the junction yesterday afternoon.

Mount Gambier Police, Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS), State Emergency Service (SES) and ambulance services were called to the location at around 3.50pm after reports of a motor vehicle accident.

Crews arrived to find three cars involved in a crash at the troublesome intersection.

Mount Gambier MFS acting station officer Matt Williamson said two women were taken by paramedics to hospital for observation.

“The accident happened in the intersection and we are just here with SES clearing up the scene,” Mr Williamson said.

The accident meant there were some short delays for drivers travelling through the intersection.

Residents in Mount Gambier have previously called for a review of the intersection, claiming it is a “black spot” with underlying issues.

Mount Gambier Road Safety Group chair Tim Snigg said a lot of work had already been done to try and make the intersection safer, including a change of the traffic light sequence.

“An awful lot of money has been invested into that intersection and I think the problem lies with the drivers,” Mr Snigg said.
