MILLICENT man Cody James Edwards, 27, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter after a week-long, judge-only trial.

Edwards was initially charged with murder following the death of 26-year-old mother Synamin Bell in a domestic incident on Poole Street in Millicent.

After the week long trial, Edwards pleaded guilty to the alternative offence of manslaughter.

The trial will no longer continue with sentencing expected to be held in September.

The plea was accepted by the prosecution in court on Wednesday, June 12.

Edwards was initially charged with Ms Bell’s murder in March 2022.

Police were called to the Millicent home just after 11pm on March 12, 2022 before Edwards was taken back to the Mount Gambier Police Station and charged with murder.

The Border Watch previously reported the Limestone Coast Superintendent at the time Campbell Hill told press police officers found Edwards outside the house and arrested him before entering the house where they discovered Ms Bell’s body.

Edwards is expected to front court in September for sentencing.
