Play space plan postponed

The City of Mount Gambier has delayed endorsing plans for a ‘learn to ride space’ within the Railway Lands Play Space until after an elected member briefing session.

Concept plans were put to council to be endorsed at their May 21 meeting, however councillor Frank Morello said this was the first he had heard of the project.

“It was playful, educational, fun, I think it has a really good narrative and it would be really good to see it come to fruition,” he said.

“But I would just like to have a conversation about that.”

Cr Morello put forward an alternate motion, which was carried, to see the item revisited at the June meeting.

The idea of a learn to ride play space came about in community consultation after the Mount Gambier Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) contributed about $150,000 to council to help develop play structures at the Railway Lands in 2019.

Concept designs for the learn to ride space envision it on the park’s western side with inclusions like different road settings and signage for children to learn rules around being a pedestrian or driver.
