ADVERTISEMENT and job interviews for the cross border commissioner position are underway, according to Minister for Regional Development Clare Scriven.

Ms Scriven had confirmed the advertisement was placed in regional newspapers – including The Border Watch – earlier this year despite being questioned otherwise in Parliament.

Shadow Assistant Minister for Regional Development Ben Hood questioned which edition and what date the advertisement was placed in The Border Watch to which Ms Scriven responded.

“I suggest he looks in the newspaper and finds out for himself, it is on the public record,” Ms Scriven responded.

The cross border commissioner advertisement was placed in The Border Watch classified advertisement section on April 12.

“The cross border commissioner role was advertised locally in The Border Watch as well as in state and national newspapers,” Ms Scriven said.

“Interviews will take place for the cross border commissioner shortly.”

Mr Hood said he was happy to hear the state government did advertise after asking multiple questions.

“We were told in Parliament that advertising had begun when it had not and we had been told the advert would appear in multiple newspapers but it seems there was only one ad in one paper in all of regional South Australia,” Mr Hood said.

“There were no advertisements as I understand in the Riverland nor in the Naracoorte papers and if we are looking for a regional person to be our cross border commissioner one would think you would spread your wings a little bit further and ensure the advertisement appears across regional South Australia.”
