TOLMER Speedway has been added to the 2024/25 Sprintcar Speedweek schedule following the development of its new track.

The Tolmer Speedway will host a five-round series between Murray Bridge, Mount Gambier/Berrin, Geelong and Warrnambool.

On December 27, the speedway will host the second round of the speedweek.

Speedway committee member Andrew Rowett said they were still in discussions with participants to finalise numbers for the exciting event.

“We are in discussions with the cars and race teams at the moment and all five tracks have jumped on board to hire a promoter to try and get the speedway cracking,” Mr Rowett said.

“We may end up with 20 cars which would be really nice.”

He said the current construction of the speedway track was in a good place with concrete walls, fencing and cables already put up.

“We had some race teams traveling from Queensland and they have done a test run to give us an indication of what the track surface is going to be like,” Mr Rowett said.

He said the event held at the end of the year would be a positive thing for Bordertown and the broader Limestone Coast.

“If we can get the seating it could be about 5000 or 6000 people coming to town,” Mr Rowett said.

“Trying to cater for that is going to be a bit of a challenge for a small community as far as accommodation goes but they will venture across the region including Naracoorte and Mount Gambier.”

He said by having this event later in the year it would open the doors for future big speedway events for the region.

“This gives us a little bit of a taste and gives the community a taste of what is to come,” Mr Rowett said.
