Dashing towards dachshund day

EVENTS RETURNS: Day of the Dackel is back.

It’s setting up to be a doggone great day in Edenhope next month, as Day of the Dackel returns.

Join in the fun on Sunday, April 7, with activities tailored for dachshunds, small dogs, locals, and visitors alike.

Day of the Dackel is in its fifth year of running with visitors and hounds coming from as far as Queensland and Tasmania.

Set against the backdrop of Henley Park, on the banks of Lake Wallace, Edenhope, the festivities kick off at 9am with our market offering an array of dog and human merchandise.

The official program starts at 10.15 am with the dog show featuring entertaining events like Smartest on Parade, Golden Oldies, and Fancy Dress.

The highlight of the day will again be the dachshund races, complete with heats and a final showdown among the heat winners.

There will be something for every small dog enthusiast, including the non-dachshund race, The Small Breed Open, catering to dogs under 30cm at the shoulder/wither, and back by popular demand is The Dackel Dash.

Event organiser Diana Saville said the dachshund race was a hit last year.

There will be plenty of hot takeaway food and coffee available throughout the day but don’t forget to pack water and a bowl for your furry friend’s hydration needs.

For your own comfort, consider bringing along chairs and other essentials.

For those arriving early, join us on Saturday evening for the annual Dackel Dinner and PJ party at Henley Park’s BBQ shelter starting from 6pm.

Dress in your comfiest PJs and bring your dachshunds along for a night of warmth and camaraderie.
