MOTORISTS will need to adjust their speed limit along Lake Terrace East and O’Leary Road with the speed limit reducing to 50km per hour.

As of yesterday, the speed limit had been extended 500 metres on Lake Terrace East towards Lewis Avenue with a further extension of 450 metres on O’Leary Road to include Springview Drive.

The speed limit was previously 80km per hour.

City of Mount Gambier general manager city infrastructure Barbara Cernovskis said council had been in correspondence with the Department of Infrastructure and Transport throughout the past few years regarding the need to adjust the speed limit.

Ms Cernovskis said it was due to the “increase in residential traffic” after the opening of the ReUse Market on Eucalypy Drive and the Springview residential land division on O’Leary Road.

The department advicsed council on January 31 the proposed changes were approved by the relevant authorities.
