NARACOORTE CATTLE

Numbers lifted as agents yarded 2,515 head of liveweight and open auction cattle.

These sold to the usual field of trade and processor buyers along with feeder and restocker interest.

Quality was generally good in a much dearer sale of 20c to 30c/kg with more in places.

Vealer steers to the trade ranged from mostly 295c to 372c with isolated sales up to 396c with similar heifers making from 242c to 330c/kg.

Feeders sought steers from 286c to 360c and heifers from 266c to 280c as restockers were active from 270c to 340c/kg over both sexes.

Yearling steers to the trade ranged from 290c to 330c with heifers ranging from 278c to 307c/kg.

Feeders operated here on steers from 255c to 360c and on the heifers from 248c to 296c with restocker support on steers from 245c to 284c and from 221c to 301c/kg on the heifers.

Grown steers and bullocks sold from 255c to 330c with feeder activity to 312c/kg.

Grown heifers received trade support from 232c to 310c as manufacturing steers returned from 240c to 288c/kg.

Heavy bulls ranged from 180c to 260c/kg.

Cows are yet to be sold at the time of this report.

NARACOORTE SHEEP AND LAMB

Tuesday, January 30

Agents yarded more lambs but less sheep this week at Naracoorte with 10,405 lambs and 2,002 sheep combining to total 12,407 head overall.

These sold to the usual field of trade buyers with a number of active restockers also present.

Quality was mixed with all types on offer from light stores to extra heavy pens in a dearer market with most lamb sales from 730c to 780c/kg cwt.

Light lambs to the trade sold from $138 to $152 as store types sold from $87 to $107 for lighter lots as heavy store pens made from $118 to $138/head.

Tradeweight lambs made from $170 to $210 as heavy lambs sold from $210 to $230 with the extra heavy lots returning from $240 to the high of $247/head.

Hoggets sold from $40 to $146 as light sheep made from $28 to $40/head.

Medium weighted sheep ranged from $64 to $77 with the heavy sheep returning from $96 to $115 as most sheep sold from 230c to 270c/kg cwt.

Rams reached $10/head.

MOUNT GAMBIER SHEEP AND LAMB

Numbers eased a little as agents yarded 4,157 lambs and 37 sheep to total a combined 4,194 head overall.

There was the usual small field of trade and processor buyers along with a number of restocker orders.

Quality was mixed with something to suit all orders as the pens contained both shorn and woolly lambs with weights from light stores up to extra heavy export types.

The market suffered from a drop in price as most sales ranged from 660c to 720c/kg cwt.

Light lambs to the trade ranged from $70 to $128 as light trade lots sold from $120 to $148/head.

Restockers sourced lambs from $90 to $137/head.

Tradeweight lambs sold from $132 to $155 with heavy lambs selling from $152 to $188 as the few extra heavy lots sold from $187 to $210/head.

Hoggets sold from $62 to $90 with the few sheep making from $42 to $68 with rams reaching $10/head.
