Final touches are being made to the Civic and Arts Centre auditorium in preparation for Saturday night’s Millicent Met event.

More than 20 local entrants have submitted 24 wearable art costumes for judging on the night.

Entrants, or their chosen models, will take to the catwalk along to music of their own choice played by a live DJ.

The evening is the brainchild of Imagine Millicent Arts Group (IMAG) which is responsible for funding several murals in Millicent.

IMAG members Sandra Melrose and Chris Hollingsworth are delighted with the response to the event.

“People have sent in photos of their work and some of them are really out there” Ms Melrose said.

“They have put a lot of thought into the music and their wearable art.”

“We are decorating the Civic and Arts Centre up pretty colourful so it should look quite spectacular” Ms Hollingsworth said.

Pearl Bellinger has entered the upcycle and most imaginative categories in the unique event.

The keen gardener, photographer and scrap-booker used to sew when her children were little and only recently started again during the covid 19 pandemic.

“I love what the group does around town and I really entered to support them.

“I thought it might be fun.

“It’s my first time doing anything like this so I am stepping out of my comfort zone.

“Everything I have used has come from the op shop, it has all been unpicked and remade, and I love buttons.

“It will be an interesting evening, I’ve spoken to a couple of other entrants and people are doing really different things.”

Councillor Moira Neagle is hosting the evening and judging is being undertaken by Kate Loftus, Pat Smith and Brianna Scanlon.

There will be regular breaks between the different catwalk categories and the final break will include entertainment by local musician Jack Lane.

Those in attendance will have the opportunity to choose their favourite wearable art item for the People’s Choice award.

Other categories include best dressed, most imaginative, upcycling extraordinaire and student award.

Each category winner will receive $250 which has been assisted by a Wattle Range Council one-off seed funding grant.

The evening begins at 7pm and is a licensed event hosted by the Somerset Hotel.

Attendees are welcome to bring their own supper and dress up in a boho theme to match the decor of the evening.

People are encouraged to book in advance through Chris Hollingsworth on 8733 3336.

Depending on sales a limited amount of cash only tickets may available at the door on Saturday night.
