Mount Gambier/ Berrin will host the 37th annual Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA) National Rally next year with event organisers securing support from the City of Mount Gambier.

At the September 19 meeting councillors voted to provide $20,000 cash and $2,500 in kind support to CMCA organisers from next financial year’s budget and $300 worth of promotional material in this years budget.

With the eight day event expected to bring between 1200 and 1500 visitors to the city, mayor Lynette Martin said there would be plenty of benefits.

“There is no underestimating the benefits that events such as this do bring to our city in terms of visitation and economic activity,” she said

Council chief executive Sarah Philpott said she understood the event coming to the city was contingent on council supplying funding.

“All councils who have been involved before do make a financial contribution of this order,” she said.

The rally will be held at the Mount Gambier Showgrounds in September 2024 and is expected to have an economic benefit of $1 million.
