MOUNT Gambier / Berrin is in for a night full of cabaret in October, with a double header show coming to Limestone Coast Pantry.
The two musical comedy shows, ‘Endo Days’ and ‘Extra Curricular’, will take the stage back-to-back.
Written and performed by Libby Trainor Parker and Matt Parker, the shows take the mickey out of chronic illness through Endo Days and life as a teacher through Extra Curricular.
After four sold-out seasons in Adelaide, Ms Trainor Parker said they were eager to take Endo Days to regional South Australia and Mount Gambier / Berrin was top of the list.
“We wanted to do regional South Australia for a while, but we actually received a grant from Inspiring South Australia, so that gave us a bit of a push to go out there and look around,” she said.
“We particularly love Mount Gambier because we had a family holiday there … and had the best family holiday that we’ve ever had.
“When we had the opportunity to come to Mount Gambier, we just couldn’t resist, we had to come.”
Ms Trainor Parker said Endo Days was borne of her experiences with endometriosis and designed to “endo-tain” anyone who had encountered the chronic illness.
“Anyone who has endo, knows someone with endo, or just really likes fun story telling and original songs will enjoy Endo Days,” she said.
“It’s a fun time, but it’s also educating and empowering.”
As for Extra Curricular, she said there was ironically “no educational value in that whatsoever” and she hoped to see a good crowd of teachers come along for a laugh.
“My husband and I are teachers, and we wrote Extra Curricular as a bit of fun,” she said.
“We thought it would be fun to do a bit of a show for teachers and laugh at all the stuff that we do, being so overworked and all the stuff that makes us laugh and makes us cry.”
Endo Days will kick off at Limestone Coast Pantry from 6:30pm on October 20, followed by Extra Curricular at 8:30pm.
