’Kelpies, kelpies and more kelpies’

CASTERTON was packed to the rafters over the June long weekend as thousands of people flocked to the town for the annual Australian Kelpie Muster.

Saturday was the family fun day and the intermittent rain did little to deter people from crowding Casterton’s main street to see kelpies of all shapes and sizes.

The festivities started with a parade which saw people line the length of the main street to see dogs and Casterton’s locals put on a show for them.

Casterton Kelpie Association president Karen Stephens said Saturday was “spectacular“ and she really thrilled with it.

“We picked up a piece of history when we realised Casterton was the birthplace of the kelpie and over the years we’ve turned this into an international event,“ she said.

“There’s a bit for everybody, whether it be the street parade or the mutton mayhem or the dash.“

Ms Stephens thanked everybody for coming to support the Muster and said it was an outstanding response after Covid restrictions.

“Recovering from Covid and the pandemic, it’s just been amazing and I think today is testament to those people who want to get out and really experience rural Australia,“ she said.
