AROUND $5000 was raised for Cancer Council SA as more than 100 people joined together for a Biggest Morning Tea event in Mount Gambier/ Berrin.

Organiser Karen Peterson said the cause was one close to her heart, with close family and friends being diagnosed with cancer.

“Today’s Biggest Morning Tea is in memory of my late work mate and friend Gail Walker who lost her battle in February this year, aged 47,” she said.

Ms Peterson said about $5000 had been raised, but an exact figure after the event had not yet been calculated.

“Last year we raised $11,000…. My goal this year was $5000 and I think we’ll achieve that,” she said.

“Any money we raise is fantastic, because it all goes through to research, support, prevention, it’s just so important that we keep raising money for Cancer Council South Australia.”

She said money raised also allowed people from the regions to stay at the new Cancer Council SA Lodge in Adelaide.

In her second year of hosting Ms Peterson said she was pleased with the turn out

“I’m very grateful for all the local businesses and everyone that supports us,” she said.

During the event attendees heard from Limestone Coast Radiation Working Party member Dee Carmody, who said money raised would help greatly.

Guests enjoyed a fashion show, dancing the Nutbush in honour of the late Tina Turner, a raffle, silent auction, video of the new cancer lodge in Adelaide and of course, a delicious morning tea.
