TAILS are wagging at South East Animal Welfare League (SEAWL) following a kind donation from a group of Limestone Coast dog trainers.

K9’s with Kaz, a dog agility group, has pulled together $250 and a bunch of pet supplies to help support rescue animals looking for new homes.

The likeminded trainers raised funds through a raffle and dog agility come and try events across the region, including at the Naracoorte and Mil Lel Shows, and the Lakes Rotary Library Markets.

K9’s with Kaz owner Karen Brooksby said her team has worked hard to raise funds and hopes to do more in the future.

“We’re just happy to be a part of something that’s really special and help the community in whatever way we can,” she said.

“It’s one of those small parts in your life that gives you a lot of pleasure for just a little bit of work.

“Having sponsors give us the raffle prizes, having the dogs participate, having all the helpers that come help with packing up and setting up, we can’t do it without them.”

Ms Brooksby said the choice to donate to SEAWL came from a joint decision between her team and the Naracoorte Show Society.

“The Naracoorte Show decided that SEAWL was a worthy cause, and with discussion with my team, that was also a tick,” she said.

“We’d like to continue doing fundraisers at our demos, but of course that always relies on being able to get some sponsors.

“The community is very genuinely kind with their donations, so we’ve been really fortunate.”

SEAWL operations coordinator Marica Perkovic said she and her team were grateful for the work that went into raising the funds.

“It’s wonderful, it means a lot to us because everything we receive, we rely on donations,” she said.

“When people support us, it’s great.

“Most of the stuff goes to vets, our veterinary bill, what we get donated from members of the public, we pass on to new owners.”

Ms Perkovic encouraged people to adopt and not shop when it comes to getting a pet to make sure animals in need find happy and safe homes.
