Children will be able to borrow new kits to help foster a love of literacy and learning on the back of Book Week 2022.

The Mount Gambier Library officially launched seven new Literacy Learning Kits during Book Week Storytime on Tuesday, August 23.

The kits include resources such as George the Farmer, animals and emotions numbers to help families engage their children’s minds at home.

“Each kit contains a mix of books and additional resources such as puppets, toys and puzzles for families to use together to create rich conversations, build strong relationships around learning and develop early literacy skills,” Mount Gambier Library children’s services officer Bek Coates said.

Ms Coates thanked the Friends of the Library Mount Gambier group for their work in raising funds to purchase the seven kits.

“We are so grateful for the generosity of Friends of the Library who donate their time and effort to raise funds, such as the recent Big Book Sale,” she said.

“This money goes directly back to the community with Library initiatives, services, programs, and materials.”

Families can reserve one of the Literacy Learning Kits by contacting Mount Gambier Library via phone on 08 0721 2577 or online at mountgambier.sa.gov.au/library.
