THE Mount Gambier RSL will be celebrating its 105th anniversary this Sunday, with an annual luncheon set to take place during the day.

Local RSL president Bob Sandow said that this was a milestone for the league, especially considering that they were the oldest branch in South Australia as well as the only one open over seven days a week.

“We will continue to have the 106th luncheon next year and hope to continue the annual tradition,” Mr Sandow said.

“It’s the day we normally have our values and traditions of the RSL and we hope to continue it.”

Minister for Veterans Affairs Geoff Brock will be attending the event as a guest speaker, with Mr Sandow and added the best thing which comes out of these sorts of events is the camaraderie and fellowship among members.

“We’re here to do a job, we’re here to look after the veterans and their families and that’s really what we do,” he said.

“I am hoping the debt reduction continues and that one day we will play our important role in the community.”

The luncheon will take place this Sunday on July 31 at the Mount Gambier RSL.

Other invited guests who will also be attending the luncheon include RSL South Australia president Cheryl Cates, Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell, Minister for Forestry, Regional Development and Primary Industries Clare Scriven, Mount Gambier SAPOL Superintendent Campbell Hill, Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin and Grant District Mayor Richard Sage.
